  • The 6th annual Ghana Paragliding Festival

This year I was priveledged with the opportunity to attend the 6th anual Ghana Paragliding Festival. It was a blast with great flying and some incredible experiences. We also were able to give back to the community through the Cloud Base Foundation and ended up raising over 10,000USD to help children around the flying site! It was my first time to Africa and a trip I won’t soon forget. Hope you enjoy the pictures and video. Thank you to the Ghana Tourist Board, Walter Neser and Sabrina Krewin for helping to organize such a great event, and all the hard working pilots involved.

Its been a crazy few months in Queenstown. While the weather has been what the local pilots claim to be less than average we have still managed to knock out tons of tandem flights. This has to be one of the busiest tandem factories on the planet and its pretty incredible to be a part of sharing the dream of flight with so many people from all over the globe. Its been a blast and its about to get better. I’m excited to finish up the working, if thats what you want to call it, part of our adventure and gear up for some travelling before returning to the states. I’ll be competing in Acrofest the beginning of next month then its off to see what the rest of New Zealand has to offer. So in tribute to all the tandems of this southern summer I threw together a compilation video. Too much fun!

I finally made it to New Zealand. I have dreamt of flying here for years, always hearing the fun filled stories from returning pilots. Tales of easily accessed adventure, locals going out of their way to help you out, and little to no restraint on good, old-fashioned fun. So far it hasn’t let me down. The air is crisp and clean, the lakes are crystal clear, and the mountains are tall and steep. Summer is just around the corner and I couldn’t be more excited for the season to come. I will keep you posted!

I was flying out of San Francisco, CA so we decided to make it a road trip and see if we could find some flying along the way. Becca and I picked up Loren Cox in Salt Lake City and planned to head west. There are several routes to Cali from here each with their own pros and cons. Becca suggested the long way, talking of a sand dune in the middle of nowhere, Nevada, on the loneliest highway in America. I’m not a big fan of freeways, so I was in for anything that avoided the dreaded Interstate 80. We set out in the pre-dawn darkness hoping to hit the dune just in time for a good soaring session. Surrounded by hours of nothingness on all sides in the middle of a desert, the wind turned out to be blowing right up the 600-foot tall mountain of sand and we were rewarded with what turned out to be the highlight of the trip. Great flying over an incredibly expansive, desolate, but oddly beautiful landscape. There’s nothing quite like busting your wing out of the car, kiting yourself over to a hill that you’ve never seen before, and it working! Then getting to share that experience with great friends. Pinch me I’m dreaming.

    Summer in Jackson Hole, WY

A Summer in The Hole from Cade Palmer on Vimeo.

It has been another great season in Wyoming. Business is starting to die down and there are less and less tourists every day. It seems like summer started just yesterday, I can’t believe 3 months can go by that fast. Since Memorial Day, minus less than a hand-full of weather days, we have flown 7 days a week. Its been jam packed, non-stop action between the tandem circus, teaching, and trying to find time to fly solo. Looking back through the pictures and video really makes me realize how amazing this place I have come to call home is. It doesn’t matter if your above the sea of dreams, high over town on your way XC, or just on a sled ride out rock springs, every flight leaves you in awe.

This year, as the snow starts to fall here I will be chasing the summer to the southern hemisphere in search of adventure in New Zealand. I am very excited for the opportunity to explore a new place, flying over different terrain, to meet a whole new community of pilots, and to finally enjoy an endless summer.
