Copachica – Entering Peru
We leave Copacabana, my friend Armand, and Bolivia, and enter Peru.
People warned us about how Peruvian local people are spoiled by the tourist industry. So much of a wrong thing: People are just so smiley, happy and helpful!

Isla del Sol
Well alright, Isla del Sol is THE touristic spot for whoever comes to Bolivia and Titicaca. But let’s admit it, this is really worth it.

Flying Titicaca
In the morning, we climb up the hill, at the antennas; this is where local pilots fly usually. No one is there today, we will be the only ones to get in the air.
Nadège tries and tries again to take off, unsuccessfully. She gives up next to a nearly crash in the rocks.

La Paz
As a reward for all our efforts, we reach La Paz, Capital of the country.
We travel with no guidebook. Well to tell the truth, Nadège has got one, Bolivia Lonely Planet, 1986, first edition. Let’s say we don’t have any.
So that La Paz was absolutely not expected to be a nice city. And at my [...]

Flying volcano Colo Colo
Leaving the Salar, we cross towards Salinas, giving a last hug to Geoffray and getting at the bottom of the Volcano Colo Colo.
Out of the fact the name of it gives me a good laugh, one of its foot-hills appeals me a lot to fly it.
We are still on the boarder of the salar and [...]

The Volcano Tunupa
Climbing the volcano at night make me think of the Licancabour and others mountains I climbed intending to fly them down.
Bad luck again, strong north wind at the top, although the wind was absolutely calm the previous days.
However the mountain is surprisingly beautiful! Reds, whites, so many colours paint the rocks.

The Salar of Uyuni
At last we arrive on the mythic Salar of Uyuni, largest flatland made of salt in the World.
Well, let me tell you that when you arrive on this alter 20 days of horrible dirt and sand road, it’s like paradise.
11am, after a few kilometres, lunch break, I feel a nice northern [...]

Licancabour
Climbing up the volcano Licancabour with the idea to fly from the top is a nice idea BUT is a damn crazy idea.
While we must be at the top at dawn to get the least thermical activity, we still have to climb it up, meaning 1600m of going up at night.

Iquique, Mecqua of the paraglide
At Chanaral, we leave our bikes in a house of a friend and decide to go hitchhiking up to Iquique, mythic paragliding spot in South America, where a competition is held in 3 days from now.
Alto Hospicio, Palo Buque, are names famous in the paragliding world.
Onshore, Iquique is between the Pacific Ocean and a big [...]

Antofagasta
The local pilots community manages to get us a really charming host, Monse, 20 yo, who traveled already a lot, hosts us at her father’s house.
We get to fly at a sand dune site north of the city with Coca, local pilot. Static flight above a few centimeters of the sand, strong breeze, we stay [...]
